Invictus

BY WILLIAM ERNEST HENLEY

Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
     For my unconquerable soul.

In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds and shall find me unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate,
I am the captain of my soul.

Leaders

The success or failure of a country, company or organization lies in its leaders.

My country has a smart but inept president who is lazy and is out of touch with reality. He listens to people he thought of as friends. These people, in turn, take advantage of that. Thus the rampant issues on corruption and the failure to do what is right for the people.

An organization i know of used to have good and respectable leaders. During that time, it thrived, had a lot of members and a lot of money in the bank to fund projects. Then came a period where the good leaders left because of conflicts of interest and power tripping. The millions were slowly drained away by corruption and greed. The leadership became a group decent people wouldn't want to associate themselves with. A whole bunch of decent people left. One is decent but suddenly surrounded and led astray by corrupt and greedy people. One new "leader" if you can call him as such, is so greedy that he extorts people, worse he extorts kids. A drunk, a womanizer and an extortionist in one tiny package. Only one of those in a group could destroy anything.

There is another organization, one with lofty goals. This one is led by people who keep the goals in mind and keep  it lofty. They embody people who you would like to emulate. Growth of this organization is fast and steady.

In the end, it is sometimes just luck that crappy people doesn't infiltrate your organization. Or if they do, strength of will and fortitude is needed to keep them at bay.
